society publishing Bionotes has been named "A Biologists Confrerie" (in
short ABC). While Prof. S.K.Saxena acted as its President in the
beginning, Prof. Dr. M. L. Varshney, Dean Faculty of Agricultural
Chemistry (Retd.) of the Allahabad Agricultural Deemed University, was
the President of the Confrerie for 5 years from 2001 to 2005.
Then Prof. Dr. Zaka-ur-Rab, Chief Scientist-cum-Professor
of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences &
Technology, Srinagar (J.& K.), was the President. Currently Dr.
Awanjala Bhat, MBBS, MS, DNB, MNAMS is the President of the Confrerie.
Dr. R. K. Varshney, the Editor, is the Secretary of the
Confrerie till date. Sri. Sanjit Kumar Ghosh, Dr. M. Prasad, Dr.
and now Dr. G.P. Mandal of the Z.S.I, Kolkata, have acted as the
Representative". Dr. Surendra Singh of the Dept. of Zoology, Dr. B. R.
Ambedkar University, Agra, is acting as the "Agra Representative".
Prof. A.P. Verma, Head of Botany, A.N. College, Magadh University is
acting as the "Patna Representative". Dr. P.P. Kulkarni, Ex-Scientist,
Regional Station is acting as the "Pune Representative". The "West
Bengal Representative" currently is Dr. B. Mitra. Dr. A.K. Hazra,
Ex-Additional Director, Z.S.I is the current "Burdwan/Salt Lake
Representative". The "Jodhpur Representative" is Dr. I.C.
Gupta, Ex-Head Division, C.A.Z.R.I. The "Chennai Representative" is
Thiru R. M. Sundaram, Ex-Jt. Director Ent., N.M.E.P.
Members of the Confrerie come from various Colleges,
Universities, Research Institutes and Govt. Departments in the
different States of India. The membership is annual. Even some
scientists working in USA and UK had joined the membership of the
Confrerie. A few scientists from Nepal are continuing membership from
last some years.

is edited by a team of two senior scientists, a zoologist and a
R. K. Varshney
is the Additional Director (Retd.) of the Zoological Survey of India
(Govt. of India), Kolkata. He is M.Sc. from Aligarh Muslim University,
and Ph.D. & D.Sc. from the Patna University. He is author of
books and about 150 research papers in different journals worldwide. He
was the examiner of M.Phil. and Ph.D. students of some Universities in
India. He has been to countries in Europe and the Maldives and Nepal.
Dr. R. K. Varshney was a resource person for the NORAD funded project
on 'Formal Diversity of South Asia', organized by S.A.C.E.P., Colombo
(Sri Lanka). Five insect taxa have been named after "Varshney" in honor
of his entomological researches. He is an expert in the fields of Lac
Entomology, Scale Incents and Mealy-bugs, and the Butterflies of Indian
region. In 2007, ZSI published "Bharat ki Titliyan", the first book on
butterflies in Hindi. He has served on the editorial boards of
"Oriental Insects" (USA), "Zoos' Print Journal" (Coimbatore),
"Biosystematica" (Kozhikode) etc.
Prof. S.K. Saxena is the Chairman &
Head of the Department of Botany (Retd.) and the Dean Faculty of Life
Sciences (Retd.), of the Aligarh Muslim University. After obtaining
M.Sc. (Botany), he was the first Ph.D. student from the Department of
Botany, A.M.U. He joined teaching immediately in his parent department
and rose to its highest chair. Prof. S.K. Saxena is a renowned plant
nematologist and has several books and research papers to his credit.
Dr. Saxena guided many research scholars and has worked in foreign
laboratories. He was the principal investigator of some research
projects in the Dept. of Botany, A.M.U.
